Teilhard de Chardin – Man of Science, Man of Faith

Product Description
In three video lectures, Thomas M. King, S.J., Department of Theology, Georgetown University, introduces the viewer to the evolutionary theology of Teilhard, paleontologist and priest. The first lecture, Teilhard, the Bible, and Evolution deals with Teilhard’s theory of “polygenism” (evolution proceeding from a small group, not a pair of individuals) and the Bible as parable or literal history.
In the second lecture, God and Human Action, Fr. King develops the idea of the world’s increasing complexification through evolution, the increasing inter-relatedness of individuals and nations as if the living world were proceeding toward the formation of a single organism. In Teilhard’s view, human actions, however humble, may contribute to the ongoing creative process—the Kingdom of God as an immense biological process.
In lecture three, God and Human Weakness, Fr. King discusses Teilhard’s view of suffering and death as inevitably related to the ongoing process of creation. In the evolutionist’s view each death has been common for billions of years so that suffering and death are part of the process by which God draws the world out of nothingness.
